Butler Assistant Police Chief Formally Charged In Drunk Driving Collision

Butler University Assistant Policy Chief Andrew Ryan, who was arrested last weekend by Indianapolis police for drunk driving after an automobile he was operating collided with another vehicle, causing minor injuries to the driver of the other vehicle, has been formally charged with two counts of operating a vehicle while intoxicated, both misdemeanor charges.

The Marion Co. Prosecutor's Office filed those formal charges during his initial court appearance yesterday. Ryan faces one count of operating a vehicle while intoxicated and endangering another person and one count of operating a vehicle with a blood alcohol level of .15 or more. Police say a portable breathalyzer test registered his blood alcohol level at 0.27, or more than three times the legal limit. Ryan's driver's license has been suspended. Butler officials announced on Tuesday they had placed Ryan on paid administrative leave.
